CHENNAI, SEPT. 14. Second-seeded Anshuman Dutta moved into the second round of the TTT-ITF junior championship after completing a smooth 6-3, 6-2 win over qualifier Vijay Siwach at the YMCA (Nandanam) courts here on Tuesday. The right-handed Dutta looked at ease right from the start, winning his first two service games at love even as his opponent was forced to work harder to hold serve. Dutta broke Siwach in the sixth game and then held his own to go up 5-2, eventually taking the first set 6-3 in 20 minutes. The second set opened with the longest game of the match with Siwach finally managing to hold after five deuces. The big-serving Dutta then held serve at love once again. In the fifth game, Dutta broke his opponent's serve to go up 3-2 and from then on it was a one man show all the way, as the former won the next four games on the trot and took the match in 52 minutes. Meanwhile, the lucky loser from the qualifiers, Varun Gunaseelan, completed an upset victory over the sixth-seeded Kaushik Das in three sets, in a match that was interrupted by bad light on Monday. When play resumed this morning, Gunaseelan led 6-5 in the final set, with Das to serve. But Das was unable to hold, and consequently lost the match 6-2, 5-7, 7-5.
Girls: Sandri Gangothri bt Gayatri Krishnan 6-2, 6-4; Bhavani Tirumurthi bt Karina Ahuja 6-2, 7-6(4).
