KOLKATA, SEPT. 14. Suranjan Bhobora of Assam was expecting to win a double crown in the sub-junior age group but ended winning three titles in the all-India junior ranking prize money badminton tournament at the SAI (Eastern Centre) here on Tuesday. The India No. 4 and Assam No. 1, the Guwahati-based 15-year-old Bhobora added the junior boys' doubles title to the two in the sub-junior section as well. Bengal's Kaushik Pal and Maharashtra's Neha Rane won the junior boys' and girls' honours as the six-day meet came to an end. Pal defeated his statemate Sandipan Banerjee 15-6, 15-10. The two, however, failed to win the doubles losing to the Assam pair of Dibyajyoti Borah and Suranjan Bhobora rather tamely. Neha did not exert much against an error-prone Jui Agaskar to win final at 11-4, 11-6. Bhobora too had it easy against Borah in the sub-junior boys' final winning the match at 15-3, 15-9. The Assam duo combined well to outplay the Bengal pair of Ratikanta Saha and Ashutosh Tewari 15-7, 15-6 in the doubles final. Pal's consistent attacking lobs and superior net play proved too good for Banerjee. Under pressure Banerjee made many errors and his mid-court returns were killed by Pal.
Girls' singles: Neha Rane (Mah) bt Jui Agaskar (Mah) 11-4, 11-6.
Sub-junior boys' singles final: Suranjan Bhobora (Asm) bt Dibyajyoti Borah (Asm) 15-3, 15-9. Doubles: Borah & Bhobora bt Ratikanta Saha & Ashutosh Tewari (Ben) 15-7, 15-6. Our Special Correspondent
