MRF inches closer to win

By Our Sports Reporter

HYDERABAD, SEPT. 14. MRF, Chennai, inched closer to win by finishing the third day at 58 for two, chasing a modest target of 134 with a day to spare, against Cricket Association of Bengal in the final of the All India Coromandel King Moin-ud-Dowla Gold Cup invitation cricket tournament at the Gymkhana Grounds here today.

MRF scored 278 for nine in reply to CAB's score of 246 in the first innings in the allotted 90 overs. When CAB began the second essay with 32 runs in arrears, it was rocked by a lively spell from India star and left-arm pacer Zaheer Khan (three for 28), who had Anustup Majumdar (10) caught behind by T.R. Arasu and later Rakesh Krishnan (24) caught at gully. At the other end, Rajat Bhatia was consumed by Arindam Das. CAB never really recovered from these blows. At lunch CAB was 79 for five.

The scores: CAB 246 for nine & 165 vs MRF 278 for nine & 58 for two.
