NIZAMABAD, SEPT. 14. The Deputy Director-General of the NCC Directorate, Andhra Pradesh, James Sebastian, has said efforts are on to popularise the National Cadet Corps among rural students in coming years. Talking to reporters at the NCC Obstacle Course ground at the Government Polytechnic here on Tuesday, he appealed to girl-students to join the NCC in a large number. Participation by girls was encouraging and the State ranked second in respect of girl cadet strength, accounting for 24 per cent in the country, Uttar Pradesh being in the first position with 27 per cent, he said. Mr. Sebastian, who was here to launch training in obstacle course for the cadets, said this kind of training for girl cadets was being introduced for the first time in the State. The girl cadets in the district constituted only 11 per cent and needed to be improved, he stressed. Earlier, he inspected the 12th Andhra Battalion headquarters at Saraswathinagar and the NCC group at Vinayaknagar and expressed satisfaction over their performance. He was received at the headquarters by Group Commanders, Col. Harish Arora, V.K. Khanna and R.P. Nair and the 12th Andhra Battalion Lt. Col. A. Sunder Rajan.
