Jothi SC emerges winner

TIRUNELVELI, SEPT.14. Jothi Sports Club (Palayamkottai) emerged winner in the State-level hockey tournament, defeating host Mathew's Hockey Club 1-0 in the final at Anna Stadium, Palayamkottai, here on Tuesday. Mahendra Singh scored the goal, converting a penalty stroke in the 53rd minute.

The results: Semifinals: Mathew's HC 5 (Johnson, Nivin, Prabakar, Franklin 2) bt Rajiv Gandhi Club 4 (Deivendran 2, Solomonraj, Karthik); Jothi SC 4 (Mervin Joy, Stephen, Mahendan, Sviasankar) bt G.K.Motor Finance Club 3 (A.G.Kannan, Vinodh, Veeramani).

Special Awards: Promising Youngster: Anbukannan (Sports Hostel); Forward: D. Dranklin (Mathew's Club); Defender: Stephen (Jothi SC).
