CHENNAI, SEPT. 14. The State Government will not allow any act in defiance of law, the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, said today in response to the Marumalarachi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader, Vaiko's statement that he would pass through the main roads of the city in the last leg of his renaissance walk. The police would take action as per the law, she said, pointing out that in keeping with Supreme Court orders, the police had to regulate processions without affecting the normal movement of traffic or pedestrians. "We have clearly pointed these out as also the fact that the processions could be taken only between Munroe Statue and the State Guest House to MDMK leaders." Ms. Jayalalithaa, in a statement, said Mr. Vaiko had openly stated he would pass through the main roads. Stating that this was clearly against the Supreme Court's directives, she pointed out that the people would definitely appreciate that during the 42-day walk, covering 1000 km through 15 districts, the police "had abandoned all other work and provided full security all along the route to Mr. Vaiko." She claimed that Mr.Vaiko seemed bent on creating a law and order problem in a peaceful State and thus bringing a bad name to the administration. The people would definitely see through these designs, she added.
