Lalu backs Soren
By K. Balchand
PATNA,
SEPT. 14.
The Railway Minister, Lalu Prasad, today backed his former Cabinet colleague, Shibu Soren's effort to rehabilitate himself as a Union Cabinet Minister after facing the judicial process in two criminal cases.
Mr. Prasad, who was among the first to appeal to Mr. Soren to resign his post after he was issued a non-bailable arrest warrant in the Chirrudih massacre case, today justified Mr. Soren's claim for getting his job back saying that he had every right to be re-inducted into the Cabinet.
Mr. Prasad said that he had no objections if Mr. Soren wanted to become a Union Minister, arguing that he had since obtained a bail and he had to be considered innocent until proved guilty by the courts.
Mr. Prasad extended the same favour to the Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Uma Bharti, saying that she too was free to get back her post if she so desired. All were equal in the eyes of the law, he said.
