BCs in private, aided collges to get scholarships

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, SEPT. 14. The State Government has decided to extend post-matric scholarships to BC students of private educational institutions. The budget for the scholarship has also been increased from Rs. 61.9 crores to Rs. 80 crores.

As per a decision taken by the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, at a meeting on BC scholarships here today, the BC Welfare Department will revert to GO Ms No 42 which treats both Government and aided/private institutions on an equal footing for release of these scholarships without assigning any priority to the first category as under GO No 90.

The Additional Secretary, BC Welfare, J. Sudharani, told The Hindu later that the GO 42 was issued by the department ensuring equality to all institutions. The GO 90 was issued by the SC Welfare Department following the scholarship muddle, assigning priorities.
