India told to promote trade ties with Poland

By Our Staff Reporter

KOCHI, SEPT. 14. The Polish Ambassador in India, Krzysztof Majka, has said that there is abundant scope for both countries to do joint business in areas such as shipping, agro processing, food processing, fisheries, mining and railways. He said his meetings with top Government officials augured well for better cooperation between India and Poland.

Making a presentation at a function organised by the Cochin Chamber of Commerce and Industry here today, Dr. Majka said that Poland could help India by transferring better technology it had in areas of cooperation. Citing an example of tea, he said that India and Poland could do wonders by joining hands in promoting tea business.

He said India was the biggest trade partner for Poland from among the developing nations.

Dr. Majka suggested that officials from Kerala should go to Poland and other European countries and market God's Own Country there. He said after visiting Kerala, he did not feel like talking about the tourism attraction of Poland.

About 10 years ago, he said, 80 per cent of Poland's GDP was in the Government sector. Today, 80 per cent of the GDP was now in the private sector, he said. There might be opposition to changes, but wonders could be done by way of taking the right approach, he added.
