THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, SEPT. 14. The KSU(I) has demanded a vigilance inquiry into the functioning of the Kerala University Union. Alleging that there was a severe misappropriation of funds and grave irregularities in the functioning of the Union, P. C. Vishnunath, the State president of the KSU(I), has asked the State Government to institute a comprehensive inquiry to bring out the truth and to expose the culprits. At a press conference here this evening, he accused the Director of Students' Services of being party to the mismanagement of funds to the tune of Rs. 1.14 crores. Mr. Vishnunath also wanted the Director to be removed from office and his deals including the foreign jaunts that he had undertaken in this capacity, to be probed by the Department of Vigilance.
Serious irregularities
Despite the fact that the Accountant General and the Local Fund Audit had detected serious irregularities in the transaction of funds of the University Union, no action has been forthcoming from the part of the authorities concerned. In protest against this inaction, the KSU (I) would be launching an agitation, Mr.Vishnunath said. As a prelude to this the office-bearers of the KSU(I) would be staging a fast in front of the office of the University Union on September 23, he added. Accusing the SFI of fraud, he wanted the inquiry to also cover the utilisation of the funds collected in connection with the diamond jubilee of the University of Kerala.
