THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, SEPT. 14. A State-wide crackdown has been launched by the police against those motorists who indulge in overtaking through the left side of the vehicles. As many as 25 cases were booked in Alappuzha, Kochi city (44), Idukki (9), Kozhikode rural (33) and three in Wayanad district against those motorists who were found flouting traffic rules and overtaking through the left side, the Inspector General of Police, Armed Police Battalions and Traffic Planning, Rishi Raj Singh, said in a release. Road accident statistics reveal that majority of the accidents occur due to the overtaking through the left side. Overtaking through the left side is illegal and punishable, the IGP said.
