Anantapur
By Our Staff Reporter
ANANTAPUR, SEPT. 15. The Inspector General of Police for Rayalaseema Zone, R.P. Meena, has exhorted the police officers to tie down factionists with the help of the law. Efficient and impartial use of laws in vogue such as PD Act and COCA would help restore peace to the region, he said. In his address at the valedictory function of a workshop on `Policing faction areas' organised by the AP Police Academy at the Police Training College here on Tuesday he stressed the need for an in depth study of social problems and the difficulties of police officers in discharging their duties in Rayalaseema.
Examine old incidents
The police officers should examine and investigate the incidents that took place over the last decade in Anantapur district and invoke the relevant laws against the culprits, the IGP suggested. An exercise to enlist the history of factional leaders, rowdies, goondas and pseudo naxalites was already on and stern and impartial action would be initiated against such elements, he stated. Further, the IGP stated that they would not hesitate to banish the factional elements from the district based on their criminal history.
Punitive tax
Steps would also be taken to collect punitive tax from them. The tax would be collected from factional leaders of the villages, where the police pickets were required due to factional feuds, in lieu of police services there. The Joint Director of APPA and DIG, S. Umapati, the DIG of Anantapur Range, N. Jayarami Reddy, the Superintendent of Police, Anil Kumar, and others also spoke.
