Be prepared for trouble during festivities: ADGP

SHIMOGA, SEPT. 15. The Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), Subhash Bharani, has asked the police personnel in the Eastern Range of the Police Department to take precautionary measures to ensure peace and tranquillity during the Ganesha festival.

Addressing senior police officials of the range on the steps to be taken during the festival, he sought to know details about the precautionary measures being taken in the range comprising the three districts of Shimoga, Davangere and Chitradurga.

He asked them to identify mischief mongers and keep a close vigil on their activities so as to nip trouble, if any, in the bud.

He also suggested that Central police force be requisitioned in addition to the additional civil force wherever necessary so that there would not be any scope for the outbreak of law and order problem during the festival. The Superintendent of Police, K.H. Srinivasan, explained that ward wise peace committees had been formed in the district to take stock of law and order situation during the festival and added that these committees had held several rounds of public contact programmes.

He said it was proposed to seek the deployment of the Rapid Action Force as a stand-by during the Rajabeedi Utsav during the immersion procession of Ganesha idols. He expressed the confidence that this year's festivities in the district would be incident free.

The District Magistrate, Tushar Girinath, spoke.

Those who were present included the Inspector General of Police (Eastern Range), G.M.Hayat, the Superintendent of Police, Chitradurga, Chabbi, the Superintendent of Police, Davangere, Alok Mohan, the Additional Superintendent of Police, Shimoga, D.C. Rajappa, and the Assistant Commissioner, J. Ravishankar.
