CHANDIGARH, SEPT.15. The Punjab National Bank has geared up to offer retail loans to residents of Chandigarh in the forthcoming festive season, according to the Northern Zone General Manager, B.P. Chopra. Mr. Chopra disbursed loans worth Rs. 21 crores on the spot at a Retail Lending function here today. These included housing loans, car loans, trading loans, education loans, loans against property and lease rentals. Giving a break-up of the loans disbursed today, he said that Rs.8 crores was given out for the housing segment, Rs. 7 crores for the trading segment and over Rs.2 crores as education loans. The function was attended by the bank's customers and senior officers, including S.S. Bhandari, Senior Regional Manager, PNB, Chandigarh Region, K.C. Salota, Deputy Zonal Manager, PNB, Northern Zone, and all chief managers of branch offices in Chandigarh. Mr. Chopra said that PNB, being the lead bank in Chandigarh, had taken lead in providing shelter to uprooted slum dwellers. PNB was the first to formulate the housing rehabilitation scheme in consultation with the Chandigarh Administration for the economically weaker sections of society and it had already extended loans worth Rs. 5 crores to 402 poor inhabitants.
