Two TDP activists hacked to death

By Our Correspondent

MAHABUBNAGAR, SEPT. 15. Two TDP activists, including a Vana Samarakshana Samiti (VSS) chief, were hacked to death by unidentified persons in Nagaram gate village under Devarakadra mandal, about 28 km from here on Wednesday.

Reports said the victims, identified as Rajanna Goud (35) and his friend, Aliraju (30) of Adiviajilapur village of the same mandal, were on their way to Devarakadra mandal headquarters after disbursing wages to farm labourers when three unidentified persons waylaid them. The assailants threw chilly powder in the victims' eyes and hacked them to death.

The Superintendent of Police, R.K. Meena, rushed to the spot along with additional forces. A Clues team and a police sniffer dog were also rushed to the scene of the offence.

Not political, says SP

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Meena said the killings had nothing to do with politics. He said suspected rivalry in the village over the toddy business could have led to the killings. He said the police obtained definite clues and the culprits would be nabbed soon.

The former Amarachinta MLA, K. Dayakar Reddy, the ZP chairperson, Seeta Dayakar Reddy, along with other TDP leaders rushed to the Nagaram gate and brought the bodies of the two activists to Devarakadra mandal headquarters and staged a dharna. They alleged that Congress rivals in the village had carried out the attack. They demanded the arrest of the culprits and continued with their agitation. Only after the SP gave an assurance to the TDP leaders that they called off their dharna.

Naidu condemns murder

According to a report from Hyderabad, the TDP president, N. Chandrababu Naidu, stated in a press release that the double murder was the handiwork of hired assassins of Congress leaders. He demanded the arrest of the culprits and the conspirators.

With the latest incident, 33 TDP workers were killed by Congressmen since the elections. It was just two days ago that a TDP activist, A. Vanamala Venkataramaiah, was killed in Patsavai mandal of Jaggaiahpet Assembly constituency in Guntur district.
