MYSORE, SEPT. 15. The local centre of the Institution of Engineers (India) is organising an all-India workshop on "Information and communication technology (ICT) for the masses'' here on September 25 and 26. At a press conference here on Tuesday, M.N. Shivaram, chairman of the institution, said the workshop, being jointly organised with Infosys Technologies Ltd., was expected to create a platform for the Union and the State governments to formulate strategies to take the benefits of information technology to the masses and establish pilot projects. According to him, the workshop will feature debates on the unique opportunities leading to unique solutions and economic gains that application of ICT holds for the masses in general and businesses in particular. E-Health, e-education, e-governance and e-rural development are its sub-themes. The speakers at the workshop will be from corporate companies and institutions that had implemented ICT for the masses. The Deputy Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, will inaugurate the event. The Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, will attend the valedictory function and the Union Minister of State for Planning, M.V. Rajashekaran, will be the chief guest.
