Russian physiologist remembered

NEW DELHI SEPT. 15. The scientific community of the Capital paid glowing tributes to the eminent Russian physiologist and Nobel Prize winner, Ivan Petrovich Pavlov, on the 100th anniversary of the prestigious award at a function organised by Russian Centre of Science and Culture here on Tuesday. The Delhi Health Minister, Yoganand Shastri, was the chief guest at the function.

On the occasion, Mr. Shastri also inaugurated a photo exhibition signifying the contributions made by Dr. Pavlov to humanity. He also referred to his dedicated research work on the nervous system.

Hindi Day celebrated

NEW DELHI SEPT. 15. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) celebrated `Hindi Day' at its headquarters here on Tuesday.

Addressing the special gathering, the CRPF Director General, J.K. Sinha, called upon the officers and other employees to use more Hindi in their official work for strengthening the unity and integrity of the country.

The running shield for the maximum use of Hindi in official work went to the Internal Security Academy. A special issue of Hindi CRPF Samachar was also released on the occasion.

Prang-La Pass scaled

NEW DELHI SEPT. 15. A senior member of the Indian Institute of Mountaineering and Joint Secretary in the Union Labour Department, Manohar Lal, successfully scaled the hazardous `Prang-La-Pass'' located at 18,000 feet this past week. Mr. Lal started his journey from Kibbar village of Himachal Pradesh on September 7 and crossed Prang-La-Pass on September 9, covering 130 km.

Plea to restore power

NEW DELHI SEPT. 15. The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India has urged the top administration of the Uttar Pradesh to immediately intervene to restore normal power supply to the industrial units in and around Ghaziabad. The ASSOCHAM called upon the State authorities to take necessary steps to maintain law and order in the district so that the industrial units do not shift out from there.

In a statement, the ASSOCHAM president, Mahindra K. Sanghi, pointed out that a number of small scale industries functioning in Ghaziabad were the worst suffers on account of the erratic power supply. If the State was serious about all round industrial development, then it must ensure uninterrupted power supply and sound law and order in the district, Mr. Sanghi added.

Focus on rural development

NEW DELHI SEPT.15. The Indian Institute of Public Administration organised a lecture-meeting on "Rural Development in India'' in the Capital on Wednesday.

The Union Minister for Rural Development, Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, said rural development was an inescapable precondition for the establishment of a welfare state and a stable democracy in the country.

He said there was a need to generate awareness among rural people about the development schemes.
