Two Congress MLAs told to quit BMP Council

By Our Special Correspondent

BANGALORE, SEPT. 15. The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee today directed two party MLAs, K. Chandrashekar and N.L. Narendra Babu, to resign their membership of the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike Council.

The KPCC General Secretary, M. Ramachandrappa, told them to abide by the principle of "one man one post" adopted by the party. The two had not resigned their seats in the BMP despite their election to the State Assembly. Mr. Chandrashekar, a former Mayor of Bangalore, has been elected to the Assembly from Basavangudi in the City. He continues to represent the Hanumanthanagar ward (no.52) in the BMP Council. Mr. Babu who has been elected to the Assembly from Rajajinagar in the City, continues to represent the Nagapura ward (no.14).

Sacked

The Congress also toughened its stand on party units, which had neglected the membership drive and removed the presidents of five block Congress committees. Those removed are Rangappa Durgappa Dalwai (Badami), Chandrashekar V. Talikoti (Guledgud), Bagappa Singappa Singannavar (Jamkhandi), Hanumanthagowda V. Patil (Mudhol) and G.S. Venkatesh (Mandya Rural). They had "utterly failed" in enrolling new members, a KPCC press release said.
