Extortionists held
According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West Delhi), Deependra Pathak, one Rati Bhan recently lodged a complaint with the Dabri police saying some persons had extorted Rs. 6 lakhs from him. He alleged that the same persons were trying to extort more money from him. Acting on the complaint, the police asked the complainant to strike a deal with the extortionists and ask them to receive the amount on Rao Tula Ram Marg today. Around 5-30 p.m., the suspects arrived on the scene in a Tata Safari bearing a red beacon. Before the police could overpower them, they realised that they had been surrounded and opened fire. The police retaliated forcing the suspects to flee in their vehicle towards Dhaula Kuan. On reaching Defence Enclave, one of the accused got down from the vehicle and tried to run but was overpowered. Another accused was arrested in the Naraina area. The other accused drove towards Mayapuri and entered the Army's jurisdiction where they were apprehended by Army personnel and later handed over to the police. The police said all the accused, Jabbar, Vipin, Pankaj and Pankaj Tyagi, are residents of Mandawli in East Delhi. They were being interrogated till late tonight to find out who had hired them to extort money from the complainant.
