HYDERABAD, SEPT. 15. An explanation is likely to be sought by the Government from the Principal Secretary, Health, S. Bhale Rao, for his action in reinstating a general manager of the Andhra Pradesh Medical and Health Infrastructure Corporation Limited, who had been transferred at the instance of the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy. The Chief Minister, who holds the health portfolio, had ordered an inquiry against Y. Venkata Rao, General Manager (Drugs), in connection with the purchase of requirements of a hospital. He also ordered the official's transfer to the Health Department.
Files tampered
Accordingly, the Central Investigation Unit of the Anti-Corruption Bureau led by a Joint Director conducted a probe, which revealed that the official had been reinstated without the relevant file being circulated to the Chief Minister. Another senior official in the Health Department was found to have even tampered with the files.
Report submitted
The ACB Director-General, S.S.P Yadav, submitted the bureau's findings to the Chief Minister's Office and to the Chief Secretary on Monday. Sources said the Chief Minister had not applied himself seriously to the issue but he was keen on sending out a strong signal that his Government would not be soft on bureaucrats, however high they maybe, if they take him for granted. The Principal Secretary was not available for comment as he had left for New Delhi.
