Letters to the Editor
Sir, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's appeal to his economic advisers to "Keep Left sensibilities in mind" (Sept. 14) seems to indicate that he is treating the Left as aliens instead of well-meaning partners. There is a shared commitment between the Congress and its allies under the Common Minimum Programme. A more appropriate dictum would, therefore, be: "Respect the views of the Left, keeping in mind the Government's obligation to abide by the CMP."
A.N. Ganapathy,

By appealing to his advisers, Dr. Singh has proved that the survival of the coalition headed by him is far more important than the country's rapid economic growth.

Sir, The situation in the largest democracy of the world is indeed unique. Genuine criticism of the Government's policies is emanating from within the ruling combination. And the real Opposition is making merry with issues that are at best irrelevant to our country.
P.S. Prasanth,
