Letters to the Editor
Sir, No one can deny that V.D. Savarkar was a freedom fighter. But how can we equate him with Mahatma Gandhi who fought for truth at the risk of his life and who never apologised for his actions? What one opposes today is the move of giving Savarkar credit for the national role that he did not play.
Valerian Menezes,
* * * Sir, The Greater London Council has put up a plaque outside India House, London, where Savarkar lived. It reads: "Vinayak Damodar Savarkar 1883-1966, Indian Patriot & Philosopher lived here." Even the British found it fitting to pay tribute to this great son of India.
K.T. Prabhakar,
