HYDERABAD, SEPT. 16. The TDP president, N. Chandrababu Naidu, has said that no decision has been taken on the candidature for the Asifnagar by-election. The TDP chief's clarification comes in wake of the controversy over the naming of the former Minister, Talasani Srinivas Yadav, as the party candidate from Asifnagar constituency. Though the name was not officially cleared it generated considerable heat as the strong aspirant for the ticket and Telugu Yuvatha leader, Arvind Kumar Goud, and his followers protested against the attempt to field an outsider from the constituency. Mr. Naidu told reporters here on Thursday that the TDP had not officially announced the party nominee.
Naidu meets leaders
Meanwhile, Mr. Naidu held one-to-one meeting with Mr. Yadav, Arvind Kumar Goud and Bugga Rao, the defeated candidate and the constituency in-charge of Asifnagar. The three were understood to have expressed their views on the prospects of the party candidate in the by-poll. According to party sources, the official TDP candidate would file his nomination papers on September 20. The former Minister, Cheruku Muthyam Reddy, has been named the candidate for Siddipet to take on the Minister for Youth Affairs, T. Harish Rao, who is set to contest the seat on the TRS ticket.
