Seminar on mystic poet

NEW DELHI SEPT. 16. A seminar on "Darshan: The Mystic Poet Saint of the 20th Century'' was held at the 21st International Human Unity Conference at Kirpal Bagh here this past week.

On the occasion, Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj described Sant Darshan Singh Ji Maharaj as an extraordinary man of the world who was a mystic, poet and saint, all at the same time. His writings and poetry carry the message of love, compassion and non-violence for all, the saint added.

Several religious saints, gurus and spiritual leaders attended the conference to pay homage to the saint. A camp was also organised in collaboration with the All India Institute Medical Sciences in which over 200 people donated blood.

Ganapati festival planned

NEW DELHI SEPT. 16. The Maharashtra Sanskrutik Samiti will be celebrating its 8th Ganapati Festival at Maharashtra Sadan here from September 18 to 27.

Several cultural programmes will be presented on the occasion. The main attraction will be a unique performance of "Jhanjh'', a traditional Maharashtra musical instrument by a group.

The Samiti president, Jyoti Dennison, said the organisation was trying to introduce the rich culture of Maharashtra to Delhiites through these festivities.

`Vinayaka Chaviti' in Noida

NEW DELHI SEPT. 16. Noida Telugu Welfare Association will celebrate `Vinakaya Chaviti' at the Community Hall in Sector 33, Noida, on September 18.

The Vinakaya Chaviti pooja is scheduled to commence at 4-30 p.m. and will end at 6-30 p.m. The NTWA will also conduct some other cultural activities on the occasion.

Hindi Pakhwara awards

NEW DELHI SEPT. 16. The prize distribution ceremony of `Hindi Pakhwara' was organised in the ITBP premises here on Wednesday. The ITBP Inspector General (Headquarters), K. Saleem Ali, distributed cash prizes and certificates to the winners of the competition.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Ali said it was the team spirit of the force that has helped them bag the "Raj Bhasha Shield'' seven times.

The Deputy Inspector General, R.R. Bhatnagar, senior officers and other personnel were also present there.

Eminent Engineer award presented

NEW DELHI SEPT. 16. A.K. Puri, Director (Power) of the public sector engineering and manufacturing enterprise, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), has been conferred the Eminent Engineer Award for the year 2004.

Instituted by the Institution of Engineers (India), the award is given annually to engineers for outstanding contribution in various disciplines of engineering. Comprising a plaque and a citation, the award was presented to Mr. Puri by Dr. Kirit Parikh, Member of the Planning Commission, at a function here yesterday on the occasion of the 37th Engineers' Day.

PNB's Internet banking inaugurated

NEW DELHI SEPT. 16. The Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission, Montek Singh Ahluwalia, today inaugurated the Punjab National Bank's Corporate Internet Banking Service in New Delhi.

Dr. Ahluwalia lauded the achievements of PNB, which has a network of 700 branches in South East Asia. The public sector banks have a major role to play in the growth of the economy, he said. The new service aims at enabling the corporate customers to experience the power of banking at their convenience and to monitor and manage all their accounts from any where across the globe, said the CMD of PNB, S.S. Kohli.
