ANANTAPUR, SEPT. 16. The member of Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI), N. Venkat Rao, today said that Anantapur would host a Ranji Trophy match during the current cricket season and a Deodhar or Duleep Trophy match in the next season. Speaking after inaugurating the pavilion at the RDT cricket stadium on the outskirts of the town he said that the BCCI and Andhra Cricket Association were planning to set up a cricket academy at Anantapur. An amount of Rs. 15 lakhs was also earmarked for the purpose. Selected cricketers would be given training by the former Test player, B.K. Venkatesh Prasad, once the academy begins, he said. On the facilities at the stadium, he said the ground had all the facilities required for conducting international matches. The BCCI selection committee member, Brijesh Patel, and the BCCI chief curator, Venkata Sundaram, would visit the ground soon. But the only problem at Anantapur was lack of star hotels. He said that the BCCI spending Rs. 4 crores on talent search every year and the programme was headed by the former Indian captain, D.B. Vengsarkar, as the talent resource development officer. The president of the Anantapur district cricket association, Manchu Ferror, the chairman of Andhra Ranji selection committee, V. Chamundeswarinath, and others were also present.
