NEW DELHI, SEPT. 16. The Union Home Minister, Shivraj Patil, today conferred the United Nations' Dag Hammarskjold Medal on the late Satish Chandra Menon, Deputy Commandant of the Border Security Force (BSF), who lost his life on a U.N. peacekeeping mission in Kosovo last year. The Minister presented the medal and a cheque of U.S. dollars 50,000 to Leela Menon, the late Deputy Commandant's wife at the BSF headquarters here. Menon died in August 2003 when his patrol vehicle was ambushed by unidentified persons while he was on duty near Mitrovica, Kosovo, on the Prestina Belgrade Highway. The United Nations award is given to members of peacekeeping operations who die during service. - PTI
