A pleasant surprise: Humpy
KOZHIKODE,
SEPT. 16.
Grandmaster Koneru Humpy said she is happy to get the Arjuna Award this year. "However, I expected it two years ago for winning the 2001 World junior title. After that I stopped thinking about it. So this has been a pleasant surprise,'' she told The Hindu on Thursday.
"And I would've been happier if my father and coach Koneru Ashok received the Dronacharya Award,'' said Humpy, who came here to attend the Indian Olympiad team's training camp.
``Whatever I have achieved in chess is because of my father. He has been my only coach so far.''
Ashok also felt disappointed after being ignored for the highest National honours in coaching. Our Sports Reporter
