MAHABUBNAGAR, SEPT. 16. The district in charge Minister, who is also the Minister for Labour, G.Vinod, appealed to bankers to extend crop loans to all the needy and eligible farmers by the end of the month. Addressing the specially convened bankers' meeting here on Thursday, the Minister said that of the Rs 375 crores credit plan for the current kharif season so far, only Rs 180 crores were disbursed among the farmers. Keeping in view the recurring drought conditions in the district since the past four years, bankers should come to the rescue of the distressed farming community, he said. The Minister also directed the district Collector, M.Jagadeeshwar, to convene review meetings with bankers daily up to the end of this month and see that the credit plan is implemented.
Separate plans sought
He said that he would again meet bank officials either on September 28 or 29. Mr Jagadeeshwar exhorted the bankers to prepare an action plan separately for each bank and fulfil the targets by the end of the month. If any bank officer faces any problem while extending loan to the farmers he must bring it to the notice of the lead bank officer immediately, the Collector said. Earlier, speaking at the meeting, Kodangal MLA, Gurunath Reddy, alleged that some bank officers were demanding percentages from farmers to sanction loans. Mahabubnagar MLA, Puli Veeranna, brought to the notice of the chair that some banks in his constituency were averse to rescheduling of loans taken by the farmers. Maktal MLA, Chittem Narsi Reddy, said that no bank in his constituency was coming forward to give loans to Rytu Mitra groups. Gadwal MLA, D.K.Aruna, alleged that the SBI branch at Ghattu mandal headquarters has so far not given crop loan to any farmer. She cautioned that the farmers may resort to attacks if the mindset of bankers was not changed.
