Temperature

MADURAI, SEPT. 16. The city today registered a maximum temperature of 34.0 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 21.6 degrees Celsius. The Madurai airport received 22.1 mm of rainfall till 8.30 a.m. today.

Water level

The level in the Periyar dam stood at 114.60 feet with an inflow of 116 cusecs and a discharge of 700 cusecs. The level in the Vaigai dam was 36.45 feet with an inflow of 328 cusecs and a discharge of 30 cusecs. The combined Periyar storage was 2274 mcft.

Madurai recorded the highest rainfall of 36.1 mm in the region, followed by Kallandiri — 41 mm, Kuppannampatti — 25 mm, Manjalar Dam — 19 mm, Idayapatti — 17.2 mm, Mettupatti — 11.2, Sothupparai Dam — 10 mm, Viraganur — 6.5, Peranai — 5.7 mm, Marudhanadhi — 5 mm, Chittampatti — 4.2 mm, Periyar Dam — 4 and Sathayar Dam — 3.2 mm.

Power shutdown

In view of the maintenance works to be carried out at the Vadipatti 110/11 K.V. Tamil Nadu Electricity Board Sub-Station, there will be no power supply between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on September 21 in the following areas:

Katchaikatti, Rayapuram, Semminipatti, Kulasekarankottai, Kutladampatti, Ramaianpatti, Chockalingapuram, Thethoor, Kozhinjipatti, T. Mettupatti, Vadugapatti, Andipatti, Kattakulam, Mettuneerethan, Nagari.

Revised tax rates

Following a recent order of the Central Government on revised tax rates for telecom services, the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has announced that users of all telecom services including basic telephone, cell phone, telegrams, telex, fax, calls made from public call offices and village public telephone will be levied a tax of 10.2 per cent, in lieu of the earlier rate of eight per cent. The revision has come into effect from September 10, according to a release.
