MADURAI, SEPT.16. The Corporation has ordered that water tap connections be placed at a height of one and a half feet from the ground level in front of buildings before October 31. Following complaints of water pilferage by building owners in different parts of the city, the council meeting held on August 19, which discussed the issue, decided to pass an order instructing the owners to place taps in front of their buildings. There were complaints that water was being tapped through illegal means such as sinking of sumps and using motors. Hence, to put an end to misuse and to streamline water supply, the Corporation has decided to enforce this regulation. The order is applicable to all building owners, individual houses, flats and business establishments in 72 wards. Further, the Corporation has warned that installation of taps in violation of prescribed specifications and any violation of the present order would attract legal action, penalty and stoppage of water supply.
