By Our Staff Reporter
PATHANAMTHITTA, SEPT. 17. The Water Resources Minister, Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, has said that steps will be taken to commission 12 drinking water projects in the district on a war-footing as part of the 100-day action programme of the Oommen Chandy Government. Mr. Radhakrishnan was addressing a district-level meeting to review the drinking water supply at the Collectorate conference hall here today. He said the projects which had been included in the 100-day action programme are the Cherukol-Naranganam drinking water supply scheme, the Kudamurutti, Arayanjilimannu, Neerettukadavu, Kurambanmoozhi, Pullooppuram, Madhathumpadi, Kottupara, Koonamkara and Kadambanad drinking water supply schemes and the Enadimangalam-Valiyathodu project. The Minister said the meeting decided to repair or replace all damaged water pumps at various pump houses of the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) on an emergency basis. He said urgent steps would be taken to ensure power connection to those drinking water supply projects awaiting power supply for commissioning. Mr. Radhakrishnan said the Chennerkara-Mezhuveli water supply scheme would be partially completed in March, 2005. The meeting also decided to repair the canal roads of the Kallada Irrigation Project and make them motorable.
Complaints galore
There were many complaints at the meeting of the local body heads in the district convened by the Minister in the forenoon. Almost all the local body chiefs were lamenting on the ``inordinate delay'' in the commissioning of various projects which had been launched more than a decade ago. The Minister for Civil Supplies, Adoor Prakash, the MLAs, K.K. Nair, Raju Abraham, Malethu Saraladevi and Joseph M. Puthusserry, the district panchayat president, K.K. Royson, and the Water Resources Department Principal Secretary, K.J. Mathew, attended the meeting.
