Business Line Club launched

By Our Staff Reporter

VELLORE, SEPT. 17. A thought-provoking guest lecture and an interaction on `Job reservation in the private sector,' marked the launch of the Business Line (BL) Club in the Department of Management Sciences of the Vellore Institute of Technology here recently.

The associate editor, Business Line, D. Sampathkumar, delivering the address, said political parties were seeking reservation in the private sector to compensate for the rights denied to the Dalits and the other backward classes centuries ago.

But it is a moot point whether this move would reduce the unemployment problem among the targeted sections, given that the new economic policy (NEP) has not created many jobs. As against the 35 million unemployed, only eight lakh new jobs had been created in the private sector under the NEP in the country, he said. The VIT Chancellor, G. Viswanathan spoke. The senior assistant regional manager, The Hindu, Chennai, S. Sridhar, said the club would provide a forum to the DMS students to interact with the corporate professionals.
