TDP celebrates Hyderabad's merger with Indian Union

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, SEPT. 17. The Telugu Desam Party on Friday celebrated the merger of Hyderabad State into the Indian Union on this day in 1948, which the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Telangana Rashtra Samiti celebrated as the `Hyderabad Liberation day.'

A programme was organised at the NTR Bhavan here this evening. The TDP president, N.Chandrababu Naidu, justified the TDP holding such a fete claiming that this day commemorated the merger of Hyderabad into the Indian Union.

He said the party had decided to hold similar celebrations every year and added that Telangana is not a separate place but is the land of Telugus also. He said some parties were trying to distort facts by holding Hyderabad Liberation day celebrations.

The Sircilla MLA, Ch.Rajeswara Rao, explained the historical perspective of the struggle by the people of the erstwhile Hyderabad State against the Nizam's rule. He said people had sacrificed their lives fighting the Razakars and Nizam's forces.

He said the day was significant for the people of Telangana who had witnessed horrifying days.
