Seminar

KOCHI, SEPT. 17. A seminar, organised by the Excise Department, to bring about awareness on liquor and drug abuse was inaugurated by V.K. Ibrahim Kunju, MLA at SRBS Gujarati College, Mattanchery here today. The seminar is the first in the series to be organised by the Department. About 100 seminars and special training programmes would be held in the district as part of this drive. Psychiatrist, S.D. Singh, presented a paper on `health hazards created by liquor and drugs'. Teachers and students of the SRBS Gujarati College participated in the discussion.

Principal of the college, R.V. Kilikar, Corporation councillor, Shahida and Excise Circle Inspector, M.J. Joseph spoke.

Workshop

Experts at a workshop organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) - Kerala and the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment on protection of ozone layer here today stressed the need to create more awareness on ozone-friendly products in the country.

Delivering the keynote address at the workshop, noted environmentalist, M. K. Prasad, said that there should be international co-operation in making ozone-friendly products available for the people.

Visits Cusat

The Chief of Staff of the Southern Naval Command, Rear Admiral R.F Contractor visited the Cochin University of Science and Technology here today. He held discussions with the Vice Chancellor of Cochin University, Cyriac Thomas and Registrar, A.Ramachandran on the issue of recognition of Naval schools.

Demand

The SNDP Yogam secretary, Vellapally Natesan, has demanded that the Government ensure proper representation of the Ezhava community in the appointment of High Court judges. His demand came in a statement here today.

Inaugurated

The Fisheries Minister, Dominic Presentation, here today inaugurated a two-day mela showcasing the investment opportunities for non-resident Keralites (NRKs). The event, organised by the Roots NRK Development Initiative, will end on Saturday.

Rank list

The Transport Minister N. Shaktan said here today that the appointment of the candidates in PSC rank list would take place soon. He was speaking at a reception given to him by the district Congress committee.

Date extended

The last date to apply for taking part in the State youth festival of CBSE schools to be organised by the CBSE Schools Management Association here in the second week of October, has been extended till September 27.
