Temperature
MADURAI, SEPT. 17. The city today registered a maximum temperature of 34.1 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 24 degrees Celsius. The Madurai airport received 2.1 mm of rainfall till 8.30 a.m. today.
Heavy rain lashes city
The level in the Periyar dam stood at 114.40 feet with an inflow of 273 cusecs and a discharge of 625 cusecs. The level in the Vaigai dam was 37.01 feet with an inflow of 467 cusecs and a discharge of 30 cusecs. The combined Periyar was 2277 mcft. Andipatti recorded the highest rainfall of 48 mm in the region, followed by Melur 28, Manjalar Dam 18, Marudanadhi 16, Thaniyamangalam 7, Veerapandi 6, Viraganur 5, Kuppannampatti 4, Sothuparai Dam 3, Idayapatti 3, Madurai 3, Peranai 1, Sathayar Dam 1 and Kallandhiri 1.
Hindi Day celebrations
E. Sundar Raju, Assistant General Manager, and Ramakrishnan, Chief Manager, spoke. B. Balakrishnan, Official Language Officer, welcomed the gathering. Reading, conversation and other competitions for elders and rhymes, story-telling, painting and essay contests for children were organised at the circle office of the Canara Bank, as part of the Hindi Day celebrations.
