DHARWAD, SEPT. 19. A Senior Assistant working in the External Examination Section of Karnatak University has been suspended following a complaint of sexual harassment by a teacher from Hospet to the university authorities. It is said that the teacher complained to the Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar of the university on Friday. After looking into the matter and consulting the members of the Syndicate, the university decided to take action against the employee concerned, while referring the case for detailed inquiry to a committee headed by Abdul Karim, a member of the Syndicate.
Background
It is said that the teacher was appearing for the MA external examination of the university and that when she approached the department, the employee in question sexually harassed her. This is the second case of sexual harassment in the university, the first one involving a professor reported the previous year. The Syndicate decided to remove him from service.
