CHITRADURGA, SEPT. 19. Several organisations have called for a bandh here on Monday to protest against the transfer of the Deputy Commissioner, M.A. Sadiq. The Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (Puttanaiah group), the Communist Party of India (CPI), and the Bahujan Samaja Party (BSP) have strongly condemned his transfer. In a joint press release, the organisations said that Mr. Sadiq had effectively solved the problems of encroachments in the fort area, the settlement of arrears from the Vanivilas Sugar Factory for the supply of sugarcane, and drought relief work . The KRRS has also faxed a letter to the Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, urging him to retain Mr. Sadiq as the Deputy Commissioner. "Every team that has visited the district for the review of progress has lauded the efforts of Mr. Sadiq in tuning up the administration. Even the Lokayukta praised him and recommended his continuation for at least two more years. Everyone in the district is against the transfer," said Nulenur M. Shankarappa, general secretary of the KRRS.
