Raichur
By Our Staff Correspondent
RAICHUR, SEPT. 19. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad, the Bajrang Dal, and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad have alleged that the managements of the Saint Mary's Convent High School for girls and the Infant Jesus Co-education High School in Raichur city have imposed an unofficial restriction on girls from wearing bangles and flowers and using "kumkum" at school. In separate memorandums submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, G.N. Nayak, the general secretary of the district unit of the VHP, H.R. Ballal, the convenor of the district unit of the Bajrang Dal, Veeresh Gouda, and the president of the district unit of the ABVP Bandesh Valkamdinni, said that the high schools run by Christian missionaries had disturbed communal harmony and insulted the traditions of various Hindu communities by imposing the restrictions. They said that they had received complaints from many students and parents that the managements of the Saint Mary's Convent High School, an aided private institution, and the Infant Jesus High School, an unaided private institution, had imposed such restrictions. They said that the restrictions imposed on the students were unnecessary, unhealthy, and unconstitutional. They threatened to start an agitation over the issue, demanding the closure of such schools.
