Brush up history, Joshi tells Thapar

By Our Special Correspondent

PATNA, SEPT. 19. The former Union Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader, Murli Manohar Joshi, today said the historians Romila Thapar and R.S. Sharma were "archaic" and said they should "brush up their history and go with the new research findings."

Dr. Joshi alleged that Prof. Sharma's new book in Hindi, "Prarambhik Bharat Ka Parichay," on the ancient history of India was "full of misleading facts." He said the book would not be included in the curriculum in States ruled by the BJP.

Accusing a section of the Congress of "demeaning freedom fighters," Dr. Joshi announced that he would be going to Port Blair to restore the plaque containing the quotes of Veer Savarkar at the Cellular Jail. He said the plaque even contained the writings of Bahadur Shah Zafar.
