Digvijay Government dropped charges, says Uma

BHOPAL, SEPT. 19. The BJP leader, Uma Bharti, today alleged that the previous Congress Government in Madhya Pradesh had allowed people who were charged with burning the national flag at Chanderi town of Guna district to go scot-free.

"The tri-colour was set afire by 11 persons in Chanderi town of Guna district. They tried to unfurl the Pakistani flag on January 26, 1992, and the Congress Government dropped charges against them," Ms. Bharti alleged at a press conference here.

A case was registered against the accused and they were tried in the court of the Judicial Magistrate in Chanderi, she said adding the Digvijay Singh Government sought to drop the charges on August 28, 1995.
