BANGALORE, SEPT. 19. The Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, has dismissed as "election stunt" the Shiv Sena raising the Karnataka-Maharashtra border dispute and seeking the transfer of Belgaum to that State. Mr. Singh was speaking on the sidelines of a function to celebrate Chhatrapathi Shivaji's 377th birth anniversary at the Karnataka Kshatriya Maratha Parishat here on Sunday. The Supreme Court recently issued a notice to Karnataka after Maharashtra approached it on the issue. "There is no change in Karnataka's decision of sticking to the Mahajan Commission report. It (border issue) is closed chapter and the report is binding on both the State governments," he said. Earlier in the day, Mr. Singh said his Government would consider a long-pending demand to elevate the Maratha community from 3 A category to 2 A category in the State's list of Other Backward Classes. "The Government is considering a proposal placed before it by the Permanent Backward Classes Commission," he said. Political representation was important for any community and his Government had already included two members of the Maratha community P.G.R. Sindhia and S.R. More in the Cabinet, he pointed out. The Government would consider the Election Commission advisory on Cabinet expansion, Mr. Singh said. The Government would "consider the advisory and take appropriate action," he said.
