KOLLAM, SEPT. 19. The Chathannur police have registered a case against the local MLA, Pratapa Varma Thampan, on charges of obstructing a Sub-Inspector with the Highway Patrol on duty. The incident occurred at Ithikara, near here, on Saturday. The MLA was on the way to Chathannur from here on his car when the Highway Patrol intercepted the vehicle at Ithikara bridge for crossing the yellow line. The driver was asked to pay a fine of Rs.100 for the traffic violation. The driver objected to it. According to a complaint lodged by the Sub-Inspector, Sasidharan, the MLA intervened and threatened him with dire consequences. Mr. Thampan refused to pay the fine and told the police officer that he would see to it that he lost his job, the complaint said. On a complaint from the Sub-Inspector, the Kollam Superintendent of Police, S. Sreejith, directed the Chathannur Circle Inspector to conduct an inquiry.
