PONDICHERRY, SEPT. 19. The Lt. Governor, M.M. Lakhera, has thanked the Prime Minister, the chairperson of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) and the Defence Minister on behalf of ex servicemen for the establishment of a separate department to promote their welfare and also for setting up an inter-Ministerial Committee by the Department of Pension and Pensioners Welfare to go into the details of the issue of `One Rank One Pension'. In a release here on Saturday, the Lt Governor said that he had actively associated himself with various welfare activities for ex-Servicemen for over 20 years and had been instrumental in getting the points concerning Ex-Servicemen included in the action plan under the Common Minimum Programme of the UPA government at the Centre. Now the Centre had established the department and also an inter- ministerial committee to deal with the issue of `One Rank, One Pension' for ex-servicemen.
