Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, SEPT. 19. The Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy, has called for effective disposal of the bio-medical wastes, as any slackness on the part of the medical authorities in this regard would cause serious health hazards. Inaugurating a seminar on `management of bio-medical waste' organised by the department of Science Technology and Environment here today, he said that the territorial administration was keen that Pondicherry should present a clean look to impress the tourists. Already steps were taken to expeditiously lift and dispose garbage and solid waste. He said that bio medical waste disposal and management called for stricter enforcement. He said that to ensure that there was no threat to environment and damage to the sub soil water sources, the Government decided not to encourage any new chemical or iron and steel industries.
