Floods hit 7 lakh in West Bengal

KOLKATA, SEPT. 19. At least three persons have died and nearly seven-lakh people affected by floods and water-logging across five districts of West Bengal over the past few days.

Over 60,000 families have been left homeless. They are being accommodated in 170 relief camps set up by the Government. All the deaths have been reported from south Bengal's Murshidabad district. The district magistrate, N. Manjunatha Prasad, told The Hindu over the telephone that the toll rose to three today, when a person was killed in a house collapse.
