KOCHI, SEPT. 19. The Leader of the Opposition, V.S. Achuthanandan, has reiterated that the CPI(M) will take a staunch stand against the mining of mineral sand in Alappuzha. Talking to presspersons at the district-level convention of the Balasanghom here on Sunday, Mr. Achuthanandan said the party's stand on the issue had already been expressed. He said the differences of opinion even among members of the UDF Cabinet on the issue had already come out.
Agitation plan
To a question whether the LDF would be planning agitations on the issue, Mr. Achuthanandan said it was for the LDF committee to take such decisions. Mr. Achuthanandan released a history of Kochi compiled by the members of the Balasanghom, `Kochiyilekkorethinottam,' (A Glimpse into Kochi). K. Chandran Pillai, MP, offered felicitations. The Balasanghom district president, Vinusha Vinod, presided.
