WARANGAL, SEPT. 19. The Major Irrigation Minister, Ponnala Lakshmaiah, has clarified that the Government will not go back on the issue of naming the Godavari Lift Irrigation project after the Congress leader, J. Chokka Rao. Addressing a press conference here today, Mr. Lakshmaiah said Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders were making it an issue unnecessarily and the names proposed by them -- Sammakka Sarakka and Kaloji Narayana Rao -- would be considered for other irrigation projects in the region. "Chokka Rao is a noted political leader of Telangana region and one should not have any objection," he contended. Mr. Lakshmaiah said the Government had accorded administrative sanction to the APTransco to set up a 66MW power project to supply power to the Godavari Lift Irrigation project at an estimated cost of Rs. 101.91 crores. The works on the power project would begin soon and said that doubts being raised by TDP leaders were unfounded.
