China halts Lebanon's run

By Our Sports Reporter

BANGALORE, SEPT. 19. China stopped Lebanon's unbeaten run in the Group I second round tie of the 18th Asian junior basketball championship at the Rajiv Gandhi Sports Complex, Hanumanthnagar here on Sunday. China registered a 71-61 win.

Iran had the measure of Korea at 84-68 in a Group II clash, to continue its march. Korea, barring a flurry of baskets in the second quarter, could not stand up to the challenge, and with Jaber Darrehsari standing tall there was no breakthrough.

India ran out of steam and suffered a setback at the hands of Kazakhstan in a Group II encounter in the second round, yesterday. After keeping pace with the speedier Kazakhstan in the first quarter at 20-22, the challenge virtually wilted away and with coach B.S. Hooda's reluctance to try his bench out, India lost 72-85.

The host will now have to contend with tougher Iran and Korea in its remaining matches and a finish above seventh will be a bonus.
