BJP declares lists for Arunachal, Maharashtra

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, SEPT. 19. Nine new faces figure in the Bharatiya Janata Party's second list of 15 candidates for the Maharashtra Assembly elections released here today taking the total of declared candidates to 98.

The BJP will be contesting 114 seats on its party symbol leaving the rest to its alliance partners.

For the Arunachal Pradesh Assembly election, the party president, Venkaiah Naidu, cleared the third list of seven candidates, taking the total to 43 candidates declared so far.

To avoid voter fatigue with tired old faces, the emphasis has been on giving a chance to younger party workers.

The first list of 83 candidates for Maharashtra had 31 new faces, and now in a total of 98 candidates as many as 40 fresh faces have been accommodated.

But only three women figure in the total number of candidates declared so far.

Three sitting MLAs — Rekhatai Khedekar (Chikhli Assembly segment), Mohan Mate (Nagpur South) and Sadashiv Lokhande (Karjat) — figure in the list.
