CUDDALORE, SEPT. 19. The Tamil Nadu State Revenue Officials' Association has appealed to the Chief Election Commission to create new posts to carry out an ``intensive revision of electoral rolls''. The association passed a resolution in the extraordinary general body meeting held here recently. The State president, V. Subramanian, presided. It said the CEC had proposed to conduct a ``summary revision of electoral rolls'' from November 1. In the recent parliamentary elections there were complaints from various quarters and political parties, about ``indiscriminate deletion of voters.'' In a summary revision, such complaints were bound to surface, and therefore, to overcome this, an intensive revision through door-to-door verification must be ordered. Therefore, for completing this task, it became necessary to create new posts. In another resolution it said ever since the Tamil Nadu Government dismantled the civil supplies check-posts on September 11, 2001, smuggling of rice meant for the Public Distribution System and the food-for-work scheme, had increased. The association called upon the Government to re-establish the check posts. The association observed that the part-time employees and salesmen in ration shops were ill equipped to carry out verification, and this spawned the existence of bogus cards, thus imposing heavy burden on the Government. The association observed that for administrative convenience the number of divisions in Namakkal district must be increased from four to seven. It requested the Government to create an additional revenue division with Arur as headquarter in Dharmapuri district. It urged the Government to fill hundreds of sub-collector posts lying vacant, convert the posts of typists as computer operators and recruit adequate number of such candidates, and regularise the services of the 15,000 temporary employees (appointed on a consolidated pay of Rs. 4,000 a month) in the revenue department. In support of these demands the association proposed to conduct a signature campaign from October 1 to 10, and submit a memorandum to the Government.
